From the Foreword:

In 1957, The Rochester Folk Art Guild (RFAG) was founded by Louise Goepfert March (1900-1987), who had been a student of G. I. Gurdjieff, since the 1930s until his 1949 death, used crafts as aid in the study of the path of Gurdjieff.

In 1967, RFAG moved from Rochester to the rural Finger Lakes village Middlesex, NY. I joined RFAG in 1972 and became a practicing artist-Blacksmith until 1983. In 2006, the author Martha Heyneman introduced me to poetry as a craft. Today in 2025 I remain a member of the organization.

In 2012, I had the chance of meeting again Mac McCorkle, a student of Louise March and one of my early instructors of the Gurdjieff path. When I asked how he was doing, he replied, “I am playing the role of Mac.”  That is how the title of this book became Crafting The Role Of Me.
